A Piece of Lanikai
Growing up in Lanikai (Wailea Point), I saw this view of the Mokuluas every day. In my younger years, I felt that painting this scene was 'cliche' and I preferred to paint anything but the Mokulua's. Until one year, 2015, I received multiple requests for this image. I've since painted the Mokuluas thousands of times, but this particular version is special because of the lighting on the outrigger canoe and the purple Pohuehue that crawls through the white sands.
Now that I've moved away, this painting gives me a feeling of 'home'. Like many residents and visitors, the journey of paddling out to the Mokulua islands is an unforgettable experience, and this painting is intended to bring back memories of our priviledge of swimming in these waters. For some of us, it is a reminder of our childhood, and for others it's a celebration of accomplishment.
